I'm

About

My name is Suhani Chopra, and I attend the University of Maryland in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. Currently in my fourth year there, my hobbies are singing, stargazing, fishing, and writing. My favorite recent memory would be getting to experience the Perseid meteor showers with my dad in Shenandoah, and seeing what felt like the whole galaxy above me. Fall is my favorite time of year because many Indian festivals such as Diwali and Garba occur around this time, which means I can to dress up in beautiful traditional Indian clothes and celebrate my heritage.

Projects

Here are a few projects that I've done as a programmer!

Maze Solver

Coded in Java, this project was completed in April of 2022. Given a data structure representing a maze, I converted it to a graph (either weighted or unweighted, depending on user preference) and then used depth-first search, breadth-first search, or Djikstra's Algorithm to find the correct path out of the maze. A GUI file displayed each step in the process of whatever solving method the user chose, and allowed them to increase or decrease the complexity (density) of the maze.

Mine Field

Also coded in Java, this small project was completed in May of 2022. A 1000x1000 2-D boolean array was constructed, with 9 bombs (an element set to "true" rather than "false") randomly placed at 9 different locations. Using synchronization, I spawned 10 threads that ran concurrently, checked random locations in the array, and "exploded" when they encountered a bomb. In this way, I made them "compete" against each other to be the "last thread standing".

Online Keyboard

Coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, this project was completed during the summer of 2022. The keys themselves were created using HTML, and formatted (in terms of font, background image, positioning, and other such things) using CSS. I created functions in Javascript such that not only would the note play when you clicked the key, but it would also play when you typed the corresponding key on the keyboard (uppercase or lowercase).

First Draft of Personal Website

Also using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, I coded a draft version of this website during the summer of 2022. It had less detail than this version, but still looked professional with interesting transitions, aesthetic color schemes, and effective communication of key facts about myself. However, since then I have learned more about making a website in terms of important information, variation in design, and allowing for as well as compatibility with user interactions, all of which I have implemented in this website.

Vigenere Cipher

This project was coded in September of 2019 using Java. This relatively simple project was based on a "message" and a "keyword", both inputted by the user, and it outputted an "encrypted" version of the message based on the keyword. It was programmed so that the numerical equivalents of the current letter in both the keyword and message were added, and the modulus operator was used to compute the remainder when this value was divided by 26 and thus, determine what the encrypted letter should be. Non-alphabeticcal keywords were rejected by the program.

File Writer

This project was coded in November of 2019, also using Java. Given an output file (either a new one, or an old one specified by the user), this program wrote information into it. This information was either the default information provided by the program (consisting of a name, a phone number, and an email), or it could be pulled from another file.
